Shoehorned into a wedge shaped site between other buildings and then twisted to face the garden, Old Yard House is a complex piece of geometrical design. Surrounded by buildings, it only has one open face but the resulting one bedroom house maximises the use of light wherever possible. The envelope is industrial in recognition of the original use as a builder's yard and workshop. Alice Poole Architects designed everything, both internally and externally in close collaboration with the client.
In 2017 Old Yard House was shortlisted to the final five for a prestigious Architect’s Journal Architecture Award and to the final ten for a London Construction Award.
